About The Course
The postpartum period is a unique time for anyone who has experienced birth. This 2 day live course explores the role RMT’s play in managing people in the 4th trimester, or postpartum period of perinatal development. As the topic of postpartum is vast, this course covers the following: Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Diastasis Recti and Stress Urinary Incontinence. This course is designed to give participants more confidence with person centred approaches to assessment, treatment and self management strategies that are within scope of practice for Massage Therapists.
Overview
“Once Postpartum, always postpartum” is a phrase that needs to change to “Postpartum presents the opportunity to show oneself how resilient and adaptable the body is.” The philosophy of this course is built upon how resilient (and amazing!) the postpartum body is. Other topics that will be discussed in this course are perineum healing timelines, C-section considerations and persisting pelvic girdle pain that promote patient empowerment and resiliency.
Although there are manual treatment components to this course, this course has a heavy exercise and movement focus as current research suggests this is the best conservative management for these conditions. If exercise prescription and movement assessments are not within your scope of practice, please reach out to Jocelyn.
**A background in pain science is strongly recommended for this course.
